CE Courses

The Center for Grief Recovery, through our Institute for Creativity and Development, offers high quality training experiences that professionals can access to obtain continuing education credits (CEUs) and enhance knowledge and skills pertaining to grief counseling. We provide live lectures/workshops as well as pre-recorded trainings that can be accessed online/on-demand.

The Center for Grief Recovery is an approved continuing education provider for the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation (Lic #268.000149). We are approved to provide CEUs for psychologists, counselors, social workers and LMFTs licensed in Illinois.

 

On-demand CEU Course:

Personal Grief Rituals: Treatment Considerations for Complicated Bereavement and Differing Attachment Styles

This course meets the requirements for cultural competency training.

Dr. Martin discusses research on attachment theory, complicated bereavement, and how to consider attachment style when designing treatment plans for bereaved clients. He also explores how grief is experienced differently across cultures, highlighting how important it is for therapists to challenge assumptions about what certain individuals and communities need in order to mourn. Lastly, Dr. Martin details how to help clients create personal grief rituals that are aligned with their unique emotional needs.

On-demand CEU Course:

The Many Faces of Complicated Bereavement: Assessing Normal Grief, Prolonged Grief Disorder, and the Mediating Role of Personality

Dr. Martin explores three different frameworks on loss to better understand and assess differences between normal grief and complicated bereavement: prolonged grief disorder, the task model of mourning, and the mediating role of personality traits. Lastly, Dr. Martin shares his thoughts about how to pull these varied perspectives together to conduct an intake appointment with bereaved clients.
